Better Than Any Face Cream!!!

Addiction?  I choose to believe it is just my quest for the fountain of youth. Open my bathroom cabinets and you can find them spilling over with beauty products, all of which make huge claims.  It may be the tooth whitener guaranteeing a beautiful, whiter smile or the body moisturizer which claims that it's firming agent helps revitalize aged and wrinkled skin.  Recently I began using two other products which assure me that not only will my skin have a healthy rosy glow, better elasticity, an improved appearance of deep wrinkles, but also that  the results will begin to be seen and felt in a few days!  Oh, and how could I forget my most recent product,  the lip plumper, which promises fabulous fuller-looking lips instantly.

Big claims with fast results-that seems enough to make the consumer in me propel into action.  Certainly this next product will be the one that is the solution for my thin lipped, stained tooth, deep wrinkled, sagging skin self!!   Unfortunately the products often fail to live up to their claims and leave me searching for the next great product that will provide beauty.

Scripture says in Proverbs 31:30,
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Stay with me just a minute and let's look at the verse using some of the words for the original Hebrew translation.
  • 'Deceptive' comes from the word shegar which means 'lie.'
  • The KJV describes beauty as 'vain.'  Vain comes from the word hebel which means 'worthless'
  • 'Fears' means 'reveres' which indicates deep respect, love and awe.
  • The word 'praised' comes from the word halel and means 'shine.'
Now that we understand the original translation of some of these words-lets look at the verse again.  Essentially what it is saying is  that our charm is a lie and external beauty is basically worthless-of no real value.  What does have value is that we revere, respect and love God with everything that we are-that, my friend,  is when we shine!!!

One of my favorite passages has always been from  Exodus 34:29-35 which speaks of Moses' face being radiant because he had spent time with the Lord. His face was actually 'casting rays' from it, so much, that all the people were a little afraid at first and he had to cover it with a veil.  Can you imagine your face actually shining because you have spent time with God.  Although our faces may not light up a room like Moses'- the effects of time spent in prayer, reading His Word and listening to His voice will certainly be noticeable in our lives.

"He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn..."  Ps 37:6a
I believe that there is a reason that we shine when we spend time with Him. Scripture tells us that "God is light" in 1 John 1:5.  Just as the moon doesn't actually shine its own light neither do we shine as a result of our own efforts.  The moon instead reflects the light of the sun-just as we reflect the light of God as we spend time in His presence.

Now, that is a glow that you can't find in any face cream!
